A GR-EIGHT MORNING FOR ŠKODA AS CITIGO, OCTAVIA, SUPERB AND KODIAQ SCOOP CARBUYER BEST CARS AWARDS

  • ŠKODA models named as the best on the market in eight key categories
  • Citigo and Octavia win three awards each with Superb and Kodiaq also honoured
  • Judges praise ŠKODA’s design, practicality and value for money

Milton Keynes, 29 November 2017: Cars from across the ŠKODA range have been named as the best in the business by online motoring title Carbuyer. The Citigo, Octavia, Superb and Kodiaq were all named as the best in their respective classes at the annual Carbuyer Best Car Awards ceremony in London – taking an astonishing seven titles.

Unlike other awards where cars are judged based on their size or price, the Carbuyer Awards focus on the needs of car buyers. The categories are driven by searches made on the Carbuyer website, meaning that the awards are more relevant to motorists looking for the perfect car.

Leading the way with three awards, the Citigo was named Best First Car, Best City Car and Best New Car for £10,000. The recently updated city car took a clear victory over its competitors in all three categories, and was praised by the judging panel for its design and value for money.

Commenting on the Citigo’s hat-trick of awards, Stuart Milne, Editor of Carbuyer, said: “The Citigo is tremendous value for money, cheap to run and has those all-important good looks allied to a range of customisation options – making it the perfect car for city dwellers or first-time drivers. Its compact dimensions mean it's a cinch to park and its small, efficient engines are more than capable of taking you on a long journey. Most importantly, it’s safe, with a five-star Euro NCAP rating.”

Further up the size scale, the new Octavia also took three key awards; Best Small Estate, Best Family Car and Best Car for under £300 per month for the Octavia Estate. Fully updated earlier this year, the best-selling Octavia impressed the judging panel with its high levels of technology and unbeatable day-to-day practicality.

Explaining the panel’s decision to award a trio of awards to the Octavia, Stuart Milne said: “The Octavia has long been a Carbuyer? favourite, but a series of revisions made earlier this year means it’s better than ever. The Octavia is fantastically spacious whether you choose the hatchback or estate and is crammed with useful features like built-in umbrellas and an ice scraper behind the fuel filler cap. All things that make family motoring just that little bit easier.”

Underlining ŠKODA’s reputation in the estate car market, the Superb was also recognised for its incredible levels of space and practicality. For the second year running it was named Best Estate Car – comfortably seeing off the competition to take top spot.

“The Superb Estate is enjoyable to drive, reliable, safe and economical,” said Stuart Milne. “It’s also a terrifically comfortable car for long motorway journeys. If you want a roomier car than this, you need to buy either a van or the biggest of SUVs. We recommend the Superb for anyone looking for a large and comfortable hatchback, but as an estate car it really is the obvious choice.”

Not be left out, the new Kodiaq completed ŠKODA’s haul of silverware with Best Tow Car Award. The judging panel took into account the SUV’s impressive towing capacity of up to 2,300kg, value for money and the availability of affordable towing accessories - including an electrically folding tow bar.
