Workshop Controller – Car Service Shrewsbury

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Workshop Controller role is one of the busiest and most pressurised roles within the Dealership. This role consists of handing out work to Vehicle Technicians to ensure smooth running of the workshop. The role holder will also liaise with the Service Department, and to be on hand to answer any queries from other departments and our customers.

The role is responsible for ensuring all incoming work is planned then managing the time and resource. The Workshop Controller assigns technicians to tasks ensuring productivity is maximised and that deadlines are adhered to. As line manager for technicians the role holder is responsible for performance management, coaching and development of the team.

  • Ordering of parts, audit and compliance as well as health and safety are also important elements of this role
  • This role is also Customer facing and may include Road tests and managing query resolution.
  • As with all positions within dealerships, Workshop Controllers are expected to uphold the highest ethical standards

DUTIES

Customer Satisfaction (CSI):

  • To assist management in implementing and maintaining effective processes to achieve the highest possible customer satisfaction levels in excess of the manufacturer national average.
  • To liaise with service adviser, advise when work is completed, or when the work is planned to be completed
  • Carry out weekly workshop catch up meeting
Generating Gross Profit:
  • To deliver gross profit: in line with the business plan by maximising the number of hours sold, driving revenue per transaction, ensuring adherence to the VHC process and motivating product sales.
  • To ensure technician complete VHC’S and video in line with process.
  • Monitor and price additional work with a can-do attitude

Workshop Loading:

  • To distribute and control the issue of work to the Technicians to maximise quality and overall efficiency.
  • To ensure all jobs are started at the required time and completed to meet deadline.
  • To ensure all technician are clocking on electronically to each job.
  • To ensure all technicians are clocking on electronically and starting work at 8.30am and clocking out at 5pm
  • Ensure waiting jobs are processed as a matter of urgency
  • Control stop over jobs and arrange further work as required

Supervising the Team:

  • To lead, motivate, coach and develop the team to achieve their daily objectives.
  • Motivate all technicians to ensure maximum efficiency
  • Have real time knowledge of technicians throughout the day

Parts Liaison:

  • To ensure a strong relationship is maintained with the parts department to maximise parts availability.
  • Liaison with parts ensuring jobs give to tech have parts on site.
  • Discuss timescales and plan with team members

Documentation Quality:

  • To ensure the accurate completion of all relevant documentation for each repair. Job cards are correctly written up in line with manufacturer requirements
  • Ensure regular quality checks are completed

Manufacturer Franchise Warranty Standards:

  • To ensure that the manufacturer's warranty standards are adhered to at all times.

Health and Safety:

  • Ensure that a safe working environment is maintained in line with the Company's Health & Safety policy.
  • Ensure general housekeeping and appearance are maintained at a high standard.
  • Manage and control workshop in line with Current Health and safety standards and company policy.

Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 5.30pm (45 hours p/w)
