Kia UK has recorded its highest-ever September sales, according to new registrations data released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
Kia registered 16,661 units in September 2021, marking an 11.8 per cent year-on-year rise over 2020. This also represents the company’s third-highest monthly sales of all time in the UK. In addition, Kia’s UK sales during Q3 (July to September inclusive) totalled 28,819 units, representing the brand’s best-ever Q3 performance.
Kia’s year-to-date sales to the end of September now stand at 74,096 units, 29.6 per cent higher than the equivalent period in 2020, despite lockdown measures in place at the start of 2021.
The Kia Sportage and Niro (including Self-Charging Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and e-Niro) models) were Kia’s best-selling vehicles in the UK in September, accounting for 4,104 units and 3,776 units respectively. Year-to-date sales of fully electric vehicles have now also hit 10,063 units (sales of e-Niro and Soul EV combined), more than all previous years of Kia EV sales combined. Kia has beaten its monthly sales records for battery EVs every month so far this year, and EVs now make up 13.6 per cent of Kia’s total year-to-date sales.
Paul Philpott, President and CEO of Kia UK Limited, said: “September has been a strong month for Kia in the UK, with sales volumes demonstrating the hard work of our dealers to bring our performance back on track. It’s also encouraging to see continued growth in sales of our electrified vehicles, with EVs accounting for an increasingly significant proportion of our total UK sales. We will also start customer deliveries of our new all-electric flagship, the Kia EV6, in the final quarter of 2021 – a moment that we and our customers are particularly excited about.”
