Kia UK Limited continues its new car sales lead at the end of February, with continued high demand across its award-winning model line-up.
Kia remains the number one best-selling brand in the UK year-to-date, according to the latest figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). So far this year, Kia has sold 14,299 units, with an overall 8.2 per cent market share. Kia’s successful January, which totalled 10,504 sales, was followed by another great month for the brand, delivering a total of 3,795 units in February.
Kia’s success has been thanks to the popularity of new models including the all-new Sportage and fully electric EV6, alongside the Niro family. The brand has also been supported with good supply of product from factories in both Korea and Slovakia.
The all-new Sportage and Niro placed first and second in the Compact SUV segment across both retail and fleet channels, with 4,134 and 3,556 units sold by the end of February respectively, YTD. Niro was also the best-selling Compact SUV for the past month, with 1,184 sales.
The electrified Niro family boosted Kia’s performance in both the pure electric and electrified channels: the e-Niro represents the market’s second best-selling EV in the month and year-to-date. Kia’s wide range of 10 hybrid, plug-in hybrid and EV models resulted in the brand being the second best-seller overall in electrified vehicle sales YTD.
Kia’s smallest model, the Picanto, sold 547 in February, putting it at the top of the City Car segment YTD.
Paul Philpott, President and CEO, Kia UK Ltd, commented, “Our continued success through Q1 is testament to our excellent range of new models and electrified products, as well as the incredible work our dealer partners have been doing to secure a successful start to the year. We’re confident we will have continued success, as order banks look very healthy, and as our new products continue to gather significant momentum”
Kia UK’s performance is not isolated, with Kia Corporation recording total global sales of 221,152 units in February 2022 – a 4.7 per cent increase year-on-year.
The company’s future focus is to create positive sales momentum through the launch of new models, such as the all-new Niro, due to be launched later this year, and the EV6. The Kia EV6, the company’s first dedicated all-electric model, has been named the 2022 European Car of the Year, making Kia the first Korean brand to win the prestigious accolade as clear evidence of the company’s transition to sustainable mobility solutions provider.
