Double win for Kia at inaugural What Car? Electric Car Awards

Kia has won two awards at the first ever What Car? Electric Car Awards. The already multi-award winning e-Niro won Best Electric small SUV, while the Niro PHEV was awarded Best Hybrid small SUV. The brand was also nominated for five other awards with the Soul EV, XCeed PHEV and Ceed Sportswagon PHEV all making the shortlist.

A past What Car? Car of the Year winner, the e-Niro is capable of up to 282 miles of electric range from a full charge and offers an excellent specification with modern convenience and safety features. Now in 2020, in an even more competitive category, the e-Niro continues its class leading streak, winning the awards Best Electric small SUV and being praised by What Car? judges saying “The e-Niro has the best blend of space, usability and affordability.”

Updated in 2019, the Niro PHEV delivers the high efficiency and low running costs of a petrol-electric car with the style, practicality and desirability of a compact crossover. The model delivers an electric range of 30 miles and fuel economy of up to 201.8mpg. What Car? praised the plug-in hybrid for its good value for money, long list of standard equipment and interior quality.

Commenting on the success in the awards, Paul Philpott, President and CEO of Kia Motors (UK) Ltd. said “Since the staggered introduction of the Niro family in 2016, we had high hopes that it would meet a varied range of customers demands. Four years later and we see our Niro hero not only selling beyond expectation via our 186-strong dealer network, but also each member of the family being highlighted by multiple awards entities and most recently the inaugural What Car? Electric Car Awards, which is a real honour.”

The What Car? Electric Car Awards focusses on plug in vehicles, with awards for pure EVs and PHEVs. This reflects the huge increase in interest in electrified powetrains from UK consumers. Not replacing, but adding value to the longstanding What Car? Awards, the magazine’s Electric Car Awards aims to be a genuinely useful guide for people navigating the new experience of purchasing a full EV or PHEV vehicle.
